At Sunset View Cemetery, we recognize the profound sacrifices made by our nation’s veterans. Honoring their service is not just a duty but a privilege. We offer a range of memorial options to ensure that each veteran’s legacy is commemorated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Military Funeral Honors

Veterans are entitled to military funeral honors, which may include the folding and presentation of the American flag, a rifle salute, and the playing of “Taps.” These honors are available to all veterans, regardless of their rank or branch of service.

Presidential Memorial Certificate

A Presidential Memorial Certificate is an official U.S. government award, signed by the current President, expressing the nation’s recognition of a veteran’s service. This certificate is available to the families of honorably discharged deceased veterans.

Veterans Headstones and Markers

The Department of Veterans Affairs provides government-issued headstones and markers at no cost to the family. These can be placed in national cemeteries or private cemeteries. Families may choose from various designs, including upright headstones, flat markers, and niche markers for cremated remains.

Burial Flags

A U.S. burial flag, which serves as a powerful symbol of the nation’s gratitude and respect for the veteran’s service and sacrifice, is provided to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a deceased veteran. Following the funeral service, the flag is traditionally folded and presented to the next of kin or a designated family member as a keepsake and lasting tribute. Many families choose to display this flag in a protective case at home, preserving it as a cherished reminder of their loved one’s commitment to their country.

Memorial Services and Personalization

We understand that each veteran’s life is unique. Our team works closely with families to personalize memorial services, incorporating elements that reflect the veteran’s personality, achievements, and service. This may include displaying military memorabilia, sharing stories, or incorporating the veteran’s favorite music or beloved readings into the service.

Preplanning Services

Planning ahead can alleviate the burden on loved ones during a difficult time. Our preplanning specialists are available to discuss options for veterans’ memorials and ensure that their wishes are honored and fulfilled.
