During a “normal year” in El Cerrito, Oakland, and Berkeley, the winter months can start to feel long, dark, and even depressing.

If you’ve recently lost a loved one, please remember we are here to help. Be sure to visit our website to explore our grief resources and learn how we can be of service to you during a difficult time.

We also want to offer these tips to keep in mind:

As much as you can, try get outside and get a little sunshine and exercise. If you feel comfortable, ask a friend or family member to join you. Even a short walk can do a lot to restore energy and broaden your perspective on the world around you. When you’re tempted to dwell on the winter blues or on your loss, try to focus on all of the wonderful things you have in your life – it is true what they say, no matter how bad it gets, there is always something to be thankful for. A lot of the families we serve find that a gratitude journal becomes helpful to them in darker moments.

Finally, look for ways to socialize. Maybe this means scheduling social hours or game nights.  Or perhaps you need to spend one-on-one time with a trusted friend, either in person, on the phone, or virtually. Discussing your feelings and concerns will help replenish your mental and emotional strength during this very complicated time.

Most of all, remember you’re never alone in your loneliness or grief. At Sunset View Cemetery we are always here for you. We believe that our care for you and responsibility to you does not end when the funeral service is over.

Remember: when you choose Sunset View Cemetery, you will always have a friend in El Cerrito, Oakland, and Berkeley.
