William H Kerber passed away in his home on September 9, 2016 at 80 years of age, after a battle with lung cancer. He was born June 24,1936 in Rosthern, Sasakatchewan, Canada. He grew up on the family farm and later moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he was Junior Chamber of Commerce President from 1968 – 1969. In July of 1976, he married Amparo Beecher of El Sobrante, CA, and ran their motel, the Freeway Motel of El Cerrito until selling it in 1999. He was widowed in 1995. Four different times he was El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce President between 1991 and 2004. He was also on the Board of Directors of C.L.I.A. (California Lodging Industry Association) 1990 – 1993. Bill was a member of S.I.R. (Sons In Retirement), and an expert rosarian. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Kerber of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; nephew Gregory Kerber of Rothern, Saskatchewan; and niece Jenny Galey, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Bill had no children, but is survived by his stepdaughter, Yolanda Melton, of Broken Arrow, OK, and step-granddaughters, Olivia Morgan and Stacy VanHoose also of Broken Arrow, OK. Viewing will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 2830 May Road, El Sobrante, CA 94803 from 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016. There will be a luncheon reception at 12:00 noon. All who wish to attend a brief graveside service at St. Joseph Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo, CA 94806, will leave the church at 1:00 p.m. with escort. Donations may be sent to Hope Lutheran Church or Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3110 Avis Way, Pinole, CA 94564.
