Walter Joseph Pocekay, 1929-2018, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Red Bluff California, May 30th 2018. He was born in Richmond California of Tony and Josephine Pocekay, June 4, 1929. Walt attended Richmond High School, where he enjoyed sports. Baseball was his favorite, and he was voted the ‘Most Valuable Player’ at the 1946 Esquire All-American Boys Baseball East/West High School Championship game played at Wrigley Field in Chicago. After that he went on to play for various West Coast League Baseball Teams, eventually winding up on the San Diego Padres in the early 1950’s. He was an avid reader who loved western folklore, and could tell you about every famous Cowboy, Indian and U S Calvary battle in the west.
Walt was preceded in death by his wife Lois and son Edward, and is survived by his daughter Diane, her daughter Amy and son-in law Kurt, their two children Camryn & Owen, and her son Jeffrey.
The burial will be at the Sunset View Cemetery, next to Lois and Eddie on Friday, June 8th. Only Walt’s descendants will attend the graveside service. After the burial, there will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ at La Strada Restaurant starting at 11:00AM to 2:00PM.
