Thomas Fischer Gates, a former resident of Kensington, CA, passed away March 21st, 2013 in Emeryville, CA.

Thomas, a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, was a published author, historian and librarian, as well as a member of the Sierra Club and National Maritime Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne A. Gates, son John W. Gates and grandchildren, Katherine E. Gates and Alexandra M. Gates.

There will be a private family memorial.
