I first met Suzanna during one of the Obama campaigns - possibly the 2008. Since then, I have been working in San Francisco but I would run into her frequently when she would come to the City for events. We always seemed to find each other. I remember her courage in having the double mastectomy to avoid breast cancer and admired her for bravely moving forward. I always envied her beautiful long black hair and loved her sweet nature. I will miss Suazanna at campaign events going forward. She was truly special.

I met Susanna a year ago at a breast cancer survivors and previvors event in San Francisco. We sat together during some of the activities and tried to meet up for dinner after a big walk across the golden gate bridge, but buses being stalled for fleet week, I had to get walking to the BART to catch my plane, so I only got to sit for a minute and then hug her goodbye. I had planned to see her this weekend, a couple weeks after she died, on another trip to SF for another breast cancer walk. She knew she was going to be too weak to walk with me, but we had plans to connect anyway. I'm so sad that her gentle, bright soul is gone away from us now and I hope that I will see her again someday.
