Sue Louie, a loving mother, and grandmother passed away on December 4, 2016.
Sue was born and raised in Stockton, CA. She was the oldest of 10 children born to Yuen Lee and Lau Shee Chun. She moved to Berkeley, CA to attend CAL where she majored in Zoology. After graduating, she worked as a researcher at UCSF. In 1960, she married Allan Louie, and put her career on hold in 1961 to raise her 5 daughters. Once all of her girls were in school, she took classes and received certificates in Quality Assurance and accounting to prepare to go back to work. She worked for See’s Candies, California Peanut Co, and Toyota before retiring in 1994. Sue was an active member of the Berkeley Chinese Community Church when her family was young and an active member of Christian Layman Church in her later years.
Sue was known for her beautiful knitted and crocheted clothing and blankets, her green thumb (she could grow just about anything), her baking and cooking skills and her love of God. She was an avid reader and loved to study the Bible. She was a member and later became a teacher with Bible Study Fellowship. Over the years, she brought three generations (including herself) to learn about God through this ministry. Years after her grandchildren began elementary school, she continued to learn about God and His word through another ministry, Community Bible Study. She led Camp Fire and Girl Scout troops, taught Sunday School and led BSF Bible studies.
Sue was married to Allan until his death in 1989. She leaves behind her five daughters and their families: Karen & Ron Jang with sons, David and Jonathan, Natalie and Dean Yakushiji and children Garrett and Lauren, Nancy Louie and Alfred Woo, Marilyn and Paul Tepora and their son, Ethan and Sheila Louie and Bob Weaver. She also leaves behind 3 sisters—Fung, Mary & Betty, and 4 brothers—Frank, Darrah, Irving, and Richard, along with their families. She was loved and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for January 15, 2017 at 2 pm at Christian Layman Church and will be held at the Grand Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church: 278 Grand Avenue, Oakland, Ca 94610. Donations can be made to Christian Layman Church.
