Rosa I. Ortiz died peacefully on Nov. 26th after 4 years battling cancer. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Alicia E. Carty, sister Maria Tello-Carty, brothers Miguel (Olivia), Juan (Molly), Isabel (widow of Jose Carlos), and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Rosa was born in Peru and obtained her first academic degree at the oldest university of the Americas, San Marcos, in Lima, Peru. Subsequently, she moved to the United States, to continue her education and obtained several degrees, including Masters in both, Business Administration and Psychology and was a Licensed Mental Health Marriage and Family Therapist. Work, family and friends were Rosa’s passion. Her home was always open and was the place where all felt loved and welcomed. Even through her final days Rosa volunteered as a Senior Peer Counselor for Contra Costa County. Other interests included gourmet cooking, shopping, going to the movies.
Rosa was a savvy, independent and adventurous woman. Her courage to leave the comfort of her native homeland opened new frontiers and opportunities not only for herself, but for the entire family. She possessed knowledge in all fields and, yes, she was always willing to offer an opinion whether you asked or not. We are grateful for our Dear Rosa who will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at 10AM at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 308 Carmel Ave., El Cerrito. Interment will follow at Sunset View Cemetery (Tel. 510/525-5111), top of Fairmount Ave. at Colusa, El Cerrito, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
