Robert Charles Hughes, lifelong resident of El Cerrito, quietly passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the age of 69.
Bob was a member of El Cerrito High Class of 1965 and a US Navy Veteran. He served as Deputy Clerk of the Court at Superior Court of Alameda County for many years, finally retiring in 2013.
He was enthusiastic about history, genealogy and Ham radio, was a member of the El Cerrito Historical Society, and worked tirelessly as a volunteer for Find-A-Grave, searching for and taking thousands of pictures of headstones and helping many people locate the burial sites of loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Robert J. and Mildred Hughes. He is survived by his devoted son Michael Sanders and daughter-in-law Debra Castro.
His gravelly voice and presence will be missed by the staff of Sunset View Cemetery. He will be fondly remembered by the waitresses and waiters who knew his face and order by heart at his favorite places; the counter ladies at See’s Candies; neighbors and friends.
At his request, no services will be held and he will be privately put to rest with his parents at Rolling Hills Memorial Park.
