Richard Keith Lewis was born at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, California on November 4, 1959. He was the middle child and only son of Richard and Ida Lorene Lewis. He departed this earth on Saturday, October 4, 2025 after multiple bouts with cancer.
Richard, also known as “Dicky,” was raised in Oakland until the age of 13. It is then that the family moved to El Cerrito, California. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond, California where he was popular and played many sports. His love of sports continued throughout his life and included baseball, basketball, cycling, watersports and golfing.
After high school, Richard enlisted in the Air Force for a brief time before being medically discharged. He worked for AC Transit as a mechanic until he suffered a work-related injury. This injury influenced his decision to become a Worker’s Comp Claims Adjuster. He took great pride in this career move, which allowed him to assist others, understand the court system, and eventually become a consultant.
He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, pool, listening to music, cooking, visiting casinos, smoking cigars and attending group prayer meetings. He followed his favorite sports teams, Raiders, Athletics and the Golden State Warriors. He was very sociable, finding immense pleasure talking to friends and family. He always wanted to be helpful and was the “go to” person in emergencies. He loved to text friends and family members Biblical quotes and excerpts from Maya Angelou poems.
He is survived by twin sons Domonique Maurice (Shaveda) and Nicholas Keith (Taleah), grandchildren Daylen, Daylon (twins), Saneyah, baby boy Dayvon, Nicholas, Ny’lah, Naleah and former wife, Wanda Lewis, the mother of his children.
He is also survived by twin sister Renee Sykes (Charles), and sisters, Frances Lewis, Carolyn Jackson (Keith) and Cheryl Johnson (Edmund).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ida Lorene Lewis and beloved granddaughter, Taleah.
Other survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was blessed to establish a long and loving friendship with high school friends, Alfred Terrell, Robert Gates and Derek Milton. He received much love and support from Kirk Brocks, his good friend and spiritual mentor. Ms. Gwen King, whom he considered his fifth sister, provided a listening ear and loving support. Much gratitude to all of his other friends who helped him emotionally and spiritually.
His beautiful smile and giving spirit will truly be missed.
His memorial service will occur on Saturday, October 25, 2025/12, noon at Sunset View Cemetery/Mortuary, 101 Colusa Avenue, El Cerrito California. A repast will also be held there after the service.

Richard often shared with others this partial quote from Maya Angelou.
“Just like moons and like suns, with the certainty of tides, just like hopes
springing high, still I’ll rise.”
