Passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home, at 80 years of age. A native of New York City, and long-time resident of Kensington. He was the first-born child of the late George V. and Yvonne M. Drakeford Ezzard. Survived by his wife of 58 years, whom he met and married in Kobe, Japan, Hisako Ishida Ezzard of Kensington; sisters, Diana Kuruc of Flushing, New York, and Barbara Klugh and her husband, Henry of Traverse City, Michigan; brothers, Dodd Ezzard and his wife, Joan of Flushing, New York, George Ezzard and his wife, Fay of Spring Hill, Florida, and Edward Ezzard and his wife, Elaine of Topsham, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick served in the US Army from 1949 to 1971, with service in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring with the rank of Major; part of that time he was a Green Beret in the Special Forces. After his Army service, he attended Cal Berkeley, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from Cal’s School of Law, Boalt Hall in 1978.
Friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend memorial services Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset View Mortuary, top of Fairmount Avenue, El Cerrito. Private interment, Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Beacon Home Care and Sutter VNA Hospice for the exceptional care and compassionate support they gave to Dick.
