Dr. Peter Alan Fowler, 79, of Oakland passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Berkeley, CA. Peter was born in New Jersey on April 5, 1936. Dr. Fowler received both his Bachelor’s in Economics and his Doctorate in Mathematical Analysis from Rutgers University. Peter moved in 1970 to Castro Valley, California to take a position as Professor of Mathematics at California State University Hayward, fulfilled as his tenure, retiring as Professor Emeritus. During his tenure, Peter moved to Oakland where he remained for 40 years. At age 5, Peter was diagnosed with polio which caused him many challenges throughout his life. He overcame these challenges with his dauntless tenacity. To the extent that Peter became a prolific yachtsman, racing his beloved Cal 20, Upper Bound, to the National Championships numerous years. He was a member of the Richmond Yacht Club, SPCA, and National Parks Conservatory.
Mr. Fowler is survived by a son, Geoffrey Fowler, and a daughter, Monica Fowler; two sisters, Phyllis Sanders and Polly Thropp; three grandchildren, Amanda, Tiffany, and Madelyn; daughter-in-law, Jamie Fowler; caretakers and friends, Tsiggy and Jun.
