A hero died on February 25th 2024 from complications of Covid. Norman Franklin Stieglitz Jr. served his country bravely in WWII at the battle of Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He was an 18 year-old Navy seaman fresh out of high school serving in the crucial battles of Pacific Theater. After returning home he set up his own business as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning contractor. Then He went on to enjoy a stellar career as the Chief Estimator with the Southern Pacific Railroad for over 34 years. He really lived for family and friends. He was an outstanding husband to Darlene for 41 years until she passed in 1992. He had more love and joy to give so he married again to Becky Castell. They enjoyed each other for 3 great years traveling the world until an illness took her. Norman married again and enjoyed 10 wonderful years with Fay Fehr until cancer took her. In his 80’s and 90’s he continued to date. He was an incredible father to his two children with Darlene: Neva and Gilbert. There could be no better father to any children than him. There are countless memories of trips across the country, amusement parks, adventures, serving others, being a family, going out on the boat, visiting relatives and so much more. He was an incredible friend, confidant, wise counselor and jovial story teller to his many friends all over the country.
He became a Christian later in his life and was a passionate servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He helped at Bay Hills Church. He served with the Union Rescue Mission. He helped build churches with the MAPers. He passed out Bibles with the Gideons. He had friends everywhere he went. He was known for his kindness, wisdom, ready laugh and love of jokes and ice cream.
We will miss him terribly. His generosity was legendary. His lessons on forgiveness were life-changing. He is survived by his son Gilbert and son in law David Labate; five grandchildren Nathan, Laurel, Jenessa, Abbey, Grace and 2 great grandchildren Benjamin and Violet. God gave him to us as a gift of tolerance, love, generosity, wisdom and kindness. He lived a very good and long life but we all wish he would have lived longer. Services will be held at Bayhills Community church on March 15th at 11am 4000 Klose Way and a graveside service at 1 pm at Sunset Memorial Chapel in El Cerrito, Ca
