Neal Merritt Hopkins (73) passed away Dec. 2, 2013 due to illness. Neal was born on May 26, 1940 in Oakland, CA to Sam and Frances Hopkins. He was the oldest of three children. Neal was a retired publisher of the family business, Hopkins Legal Forms. Neal’s talents and interests included a love of people, art, sign-making, watches, jewelry, rocks, walking, animals, antiques, EBAY and history. Neal belonged to several clubs throughout his life, including the Vallejo Gem and Mineral Society, the NAWCC, a past master of the Oakland Scottish Rite, life member of the Bay Cities Mason Lodge in Richmond, Knights of St. Andrew and a very devoted member for over 25 years of Toastmasters International. Neal was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but always enjoyed attending and learning about other religions. Neal loved to talk to people about their lives and history, oftentimes talking to strangers, inviting them to Toastmasters and becoming new friends. He loved to tell people to call him Uncle Neal. Neal had a very big heart and loved to help people.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Randi and his daughter Stacy, son-in-law James, granddaughters Caylyn and Ashley, brother Dale (Linda), sister Nancy (Gerry), nephews and nieces and many wonderful friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at 11:30AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hilltop Chapel, El Sobrante, CA.
