We mourn the passing of our dear Nancy Walls who brought life and light to her family and to those she touched as a nurse and friend. She struggled for years with Parkinson’s Disease and died peacefully in her sleep on Sep. 7. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 44 years, Randy Schekman, and her two talented and loving children. Lauren Storz and her husband Colin, and Joel Schekman. Nancy is survived by her brother Jim and sister Shirley, their children and grandchildren and Randy’s family, his father Alfred his wife Sandy, and brothers Murry, Cary and Tracey and their families. Born in Millinocket, Maine, Nancy trained as a nurse in Boston and moved to the San Francisco bay area where she met and married Randy in a park wedding near Stanford in 1973. They moved to El Cerrito in 1976 and began their family life with Joel, born in 1978, and Lauren in 1982. During her professional life, Nancy worked as a hospital nurse, a hospice nurse and in the east bay VNA. Nancy imparted a love of music to her children and guided them through early years in orchestras and choirs, a love that they have taken to their adult life. She will be remembered for her wit and strength as a professional woman, but most of all for the unconditional love and laughter she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. There will be a memorial service held at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, CA on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00am. Nancy volunteered for Planned Parenthood and in lieu of flowers would wish any donations to be directed to that essential service.
