Mozell Van Dyke was born June 2, 1934 in Idabel Oklahoma to Rebecca and Richard Van Dyke. She was the twelfth of thirteen children.
She attended school in Earlimart, California and Idabel, Oklahoma. She graduated Booker T. Washington high school in Idabel, Oklahoma.
Mozell married USAF Airmen First Class, Wallace O. Patterson in San Diego California on June 19, 1955. To this union were born 5 children Wallace Jr., James DeWayne, Ronald, Donald and Yolanda.
Mozell accepted Christ as her savior in 1974 and joined Unveiled Christ Ministries in Oakland, California.
Mozell loved art. When not caring for her family and mother, she joined the Richmond Art Center, and enrolled in their drawing and acrylic painting classes. Aside from this, she enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and traveling. She often read about the various countries and lifestyles and longed to visit Israel.
Mozell led a quiet and peaceful life. Her immediate family was her life and she was dedicated to their care even as adults.
