Bob was born in San Francisco to Wing Mow and Lily Lew on September 13, 1926. He attended San Francisco schools and his formative years were spent at the Chinese Presbyterian Church and Cameron House. Bob served in the US Army as a second lieutenant during World War ll. After the war, he graduated from San Francisco State University. He taught science at Francisco Junior High School and chemistry at Galileo High School for 39 years.
Bob had a beautiful singing voice and loved listening to Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Simon and Garfunkel and Eva Cassidy. Watching old westerns, samurai movies and science fiction like The Twilight Zone and Star Trek was a source of constant enjoyment. Most of his summers were spent with his family camping and backpacking in the Sierra, and in the West in general. Most of his winter vacations were spent skiing. He also travelled extensively in Europe and Asia. He was lucky enough to stay active for most of his life. He bought a new pair of skis when he was in his eighties. His last trip was a river cruise on the Rhine when he was just about 97 years old.
He was predeceased by his sister Donaldina Young.
Bob is survived by his wife Etsuko, his children Jon (Paula), Kevin (Terri), Brenda, Paul (Jo), Bird; sister Evelyn Loo, brother Charles (Bonnie); grandchildren Eric, Garrett, Kyla, Caitlin, PJ, Rachel, David; seven great grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.
