Arlyn passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family; he was 88 years old.
Arlyn was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the youngest of five, of Albert and Louise Krumbein. After attending school there, Arlyn served in the Navy during the Korean War. On his ship, he became a crew cook and mastered the art of serving the masses. This is when he perfected his pie crusts, to carry on as seasonal traditions throughout his family’s upbringing. Once stateside, Arlyn eloped with his great love Arlene Froh, and moved to California in 1954. The two were married for almost 50 years before Arlene’s passing in 2004.
In California, Arlyn became an Insurance Agent with Farmers Insurance Group for over 30 years, with the business later operated by his eldest daughter. Known as the “fix it” man, Arlyn took great pride in his handy work. With great joy, he would help anyone with anything from carpentry, to painting, to landscape, to plumbing. His hobbies were well known by all as golfing and fishing whenever he could. His favorite title was being Papa to his two granddaughters. He had a wonderful and generous heart that will forever be missed.
His latest joy was in the happenings and friendships he had made through his memberships at the Elks, the Moose, and the Eagles Lodges. Arlyn held treasurer positions and committee engagements, along with meeting his companion and dancing partner, Mary Leon.
Arlyn is survived by his loving family, daughter Julie Fahmie and son-in-law Gary Fahmie, daughter Jill Krumbein and partner Tony Lara, and two granddaughters, Briana and Lauren Fahmie, along with many friends. Arlyn will be greatly missed by all, but they know he is in a heavenly place and reunited with the incomparable Arlene.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at 3:00 PM on Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Elks Lodge; 3931 San Pablo Dam Road, El Sobrante. Donations can be made to Hospice East Bay; https://www.hospiceeastbay.org/development/donations.
