Mitsuru “Mitch” Inouye was born on May 10, 1930 in East Oakland California to Shigemasa and Yukimi Inouye. His parents owned a grocery store at 9721 E 14th Street in Oakland. He was the youngest of 6 children. He had three older sisters, Suga, Setsu and Taka. He also had two older brothers, Kaz and Tak. When the war broke out, the family was relocated to Tanforan Race Track in San Bruno for about 6 months. Then they were put on a train and brought to Delta, Utah and then bused to Topaz, Utah. He is a 1948 graduate of Berkeley High School. After graduating from Merritt Business School he was drafted into the U.S Army and was stationed in Pusan Korea. After being honorably discharged from the army he lived on Jane Ave in Oakland with his parents and brother Takara. Soon after finding a job in Sacramento he moved to Davis and roomed with his brother Takara. It was during this time that Mitch started dating Ann Matsumoto. After dating 3 years they were wed on September 21, 1957. The newlyweds lived in Sacramento for 3 months till he was transferred to Oakland and they lived in Berkeley at Acton Circle. They lived there for about a year and then moved to 2412 ½ Grove Street where Eric was born In July of 1959 and Lisa in 1961. The family lived there till 1966 and moved to Richmond where Ann lives to this day. While living in Richmond, Mitch was employed at C.M.E., Delta Truck Lines, Berkeley Unified School District and from Contra Costa County where he retired in 1999 as a Computer Programmer/Analyst. Mitch passed away quietly in his sleep Monday, January 27 around 9:00am. He is survived by his wife Ann, son Eric and daughter in law Sandra, daughter Lisa and son in-law Rick and 5 grand Children, Emi, Sienna, Ethan, Ryan and Serra. A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held on February 22, 2020 at Saint Jerome’s Parish Hall at 308 Carmel Ave. El Cerrito Ca. from 12 noon to 3.
