Melissa Cerezo Fernandez Kirby "Lissa" Fernandez passed away peacefully in Richmond, CA on September 15, 2019 at the age of 40-years-old.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Brian Scott Kirby, her daughter Penelope Felicity Kirby, and her son, Maxwell Roy Kirby. She is also survived by her extended family on the Fernandez side who live in Hercules, CA, Oakley, CA, and Milpitas, CA.
Her mother/nanay, Marie Benedicta Cerezo hails from Manila, Philippines. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Katherine Kirby Bergfors from San Diego, CA, her father-in-law, Roy Vincent Kirby, also from San Diego, CA, and her sister-in-law, Vanessa Michelle Coburn and her husband, Timothy Coburn from Ojai, CA.
She is also preceded in her passing by her siblings, Eleanore Marie Cerezo Fernandez-Payne and her husband, John Wesley Payne, Frederick Jess Cerezo Fernandez and his wife, Ana Fernandez, and Joel Jay Cerezo Fernandez and his wife, Phoumaline “Debbie” Louanophixay.
She is also the aunt to her in total nine nieces and nephews, Asia De Jesus, Derick De Jesus Fernandez, Rio De Jesus Fernandez, Jayla Rae Fernandez, Kylee Tasiana Fernandez, Johnella Marie Fernandez-Payne, Paris Simone Fernandez, Franzen Amel Fernandez, and Jaehaerys Asher Fernandez.
Melissa was born on October 9, 1978 on a gorgeous sunny day at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, CA. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 2003 with a degree in Ethnic Studies and Pre-Law. She married Brian, her college sweetheart and after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in the East Bay. Melissa has held numerous positions in major companies, for example Google and Apple and was going to start a position possibly at Facebook soon, too. She was a devoted PTA Secretary and was committed helping the community at Ohlone spearheading several fundraising campaigns for the school.
Her celebration of life is on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary in El, Cerrito, CA, with a reception to follow.Her siblings and close family will share in officiating the ceremony. @ Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary
