Mary Lou Bonkofsky-Carter passed away on September 11,2020. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years. The Honorable Allan Patrick Carter. She is also survived by her sister Joanne Bonkofsky Reynolds, her nephews: Michael Carter, Clay Reynolds and Chris Reynolds.. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nancy Bonkofsky, her brothers-in law Steven Carter and Michael James Reynolds, M.D.,and beloved , niece Heather Reynolds.
Mary Lou attended the Berkeley Public Schools and spent her summers with her family and friends at “the cabin” in Anderson’s Springs. After Berkeley High, she attended ASU. Upon graduation, Mary Lou found a job as a teller at Crocker Bank where she found a niche as a compliance officer. She moved on to the Bank of America in the financial district where she quickly rose to the position of a Vice President. She traveled around the country giving seminars in banking compliance. Moving across the Bay, Mary Lou worked for Mechanic’s Bank of Richmond and finally at Napa Valley Bank where she was a Senior Vice President in charge of compliance. A colleague called her “a Pro’s Pro.
Mary Lou served two terms as president of the Lilac Branch of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland representing Napa and Solano Counties. She was also on the 2019 and 2020 Board of Directors for Children’s Hospital branches.
Mary Lou and Allan loved to travel. They went to Europe several times, to Hong Kong, Australia and Hawaii.
She loved to sit at the bar with a glass of wine and a hamburger. She and her sister, Joanne, were always on the search for the perfect hamburger.
Mary Lou was beautiful, glamorous and fun!
