Mary was born in Osage City, Kansas to Fred Jr. and Florence Vera Kinney. Florence passed when Mary was 2 years old. A few years later Fred Jr. remarried Peggy who helped raise Mary and her brother, Fred III. Mary grew up in Sacramento, Berkeley, Albany, and Maxwell, CA. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1948. Mary met her husband Bob through her brother Fred while they were in the Marine corps together. Bob and Mary married July 2, 1950 in Carson City, Nevada. They were married for 55 years until Bob’s death in Dec. 2005.
Mary worked as a grocery clerk for 23 years. Her last job was with Park and Shop Andronicos in Berkeley, CA. Mary had to stop working and go on disability because of a bad leg. Mary and Bob retired to Lake Almanor in 1989 where they loved to fish and live.
Mary did some quilting, making bead necklaces, shopping, reading books, playing cards, cooking, camping, in her younger years spending vacations at Bucks Lake. She loved to water ski on her and Bob’s boat, the dunphy 1959, which the family still owns.
Mary leaves behind her two children; Mike (Kathy) and Sue (Gus) Burgos. Mary has five grandchildren; Bobby (Kelly), Stephanie (Joe), Justin (Angelica), Jennifer and Joe (Rene) and 17 great-grandchildren. Mary also leaves sister-in-laws Maureen Moeller (Albert) of Nebraska and Linda (Glen) Beck of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
Family would like to thank Ms. Ellie, Emily, Vicky, Carmen and all of the Redwood Residence for taking care of Mary the last five years of her life. Also, thank you to the hospice nurse, Rose, and others for also caring for Mary in the home.
Visitation will be held on October 5, 2023 (Th) at 10:00 AM with a funeral to follow at 11:00 AM at Sunset View Cemetery’s Mausoleum Chapel, located on the grounds in El Cerrito, CA.
