The first child of Wally and Helen, Marilyn Leavitt was born in 1943 and grew up in Kensington with her younger sister Elizabeth.
As a youth Marilyn participated in Girl Scouts, piano, singing, acting and teaching theater to children. After high school Marilyn attended UC Berkeley where she majored in French and minored in Music. She spent her junior year studying abroad at The Sorbonne which sparked a lifelong love of French language and culture. After college Marilyn began her career as an elementary school teacher. For over 37 years in Castro Valley schools she was known for the yearly musicals she co-directed, the daily hug she gave each student and her knack for expressive story-telling.
Outside of school Marilyn spent her adulthood active in community theater productions and after the birth of her daughter Katie in 1982 focused her time on family. After retiring in 2005 Marilyn filled her life with activities that brought her joy: spending time with her partner Ginny, traveling, singing and performing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
