Marie Johnson Alcorn passed away on January 29, 2017 at the age of 96. She was born on June 21, 1920 in Virginia, Minnesota and lived in Castro Valley since 1963.
She married Dr. George B. Alcorn on December 6, 1963. She was the sister of the first Mrs. Alcorn, Ragnhild Christine, who died in 1959. She graduated from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minnesota. She also attended the universities of Minnesota and California. She was a registered nurse and served as a U.S. Navy nurse in World War II.
She is survived by sons James Alcorn of La Jolla and David Alcorn of Graeagle, CA, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1998, two sisters and three brothers.
She was a member of Calvary Bible Chapel of Fremont; active for many years as a volunteer at Juvenile Hall under Follow Up Ministries, as well as women’s Bible studies.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Sunset View Cemetery, junction of Colusa and Fairmount Avenues in El Cerrito. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Bible Chapel, 32701 Falcon Dr. in Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Calvary Bible Chapel, 32701 Falcon Dr., Fremont, CA 94555 with a designation for “The Believers Bible Commentary Translation Project”.
