Luis Diaz Porras passed away on February 8, 2015 with his family at his side. Born in Santiago, Mexico, Luis moved to Watsonville, CA at age 12 and lived there until he went to college. At the University of the Pacific, in Stockton, CA, Luis received his B.S. degree in economics and Spanish. After college, Luis moved to San Francisco and studied Romance Languages and Literature at University of California at Berkeley. Luis has resided in Albany, CA for the past 25 years.
For many years, Luis worked with adults with special needs in Richmond, CA. For the past five years, Luis taught Spanish at El Cerrito High School, where he also coached the Boys Varsity Soccer team.
Luis was an amazing person. He was strong in both mind and body. Luis had many interests, but his greatest passion was his family. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Alice, and a doting father to his daughters, Natalia and Trini and a devoted son to his mother, Lucia.
Luis is also survived by his father, Jose Luis Porras, four brothers, one sister and an extensive family both here and in Mexico.
A Funeral Mass will be held, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church, 1500 34th Avenue in Oakland, CA 94601. A viewing will be held after the mass until 7:30 p.m. at Sunset View Cemetery, 101 Colusa Avenue in El Cerrito, CA 94530.
