Professor Linda Chown, of Lithuanian, Romanian and English descent, passed away on April 3rd after a long illness. Born in Berkeley, California, she studied at SFSU with Stan and Anne Rice and at UC Berkeley in the 1960’s. She was a professor emerita at GVSU. She was thrilled to always be captivated by learning.
Linda Chown was a prolific scholar, researcher, and writer, who published many books of poetry, a stream of reviews and prose overviews of writers, as well as a narrative critical study. She always wrote to be closer and to develop invisible threads which go somehow to the “other side of things.”
She is survived by her sister Jennifer Chown, niece Rina Narcisse, nephews Marcellus Narcisse and Montgomery Narcisse and many cousins.
Services will be held at Noon on April 22, 2024, at Sunset View Cemetery 101 Colusa Avenue, El Cerrito, CA, with a Zoom Celebration of her life to be announced.
