Lin Heung Cheung
May 10, 1925 – February 8, 2022
Ms. Lin Heung Cheung (張蓮香) passed away serenely in her sleep on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the age of 96 at home in Union City, California, where she lived for over 30 years.
She is survived by her seven children: So Ching Soo, Christina Ng (Leslie), Hon-Sik Lo (Mu Yi), Frederick Lo (Sue), Terence Law (Mei), Shuk Ching Law and Andy Law (Christine); and her fourteen grandchildren: Alice Wu, Randy Soo, Andy Soo, Tzu Yuan Lo, Chi Chen Lo, Tzu Sung Lo, Alice Ng, Kenneth Ng, Tommy Lo, Juliana Law, Kimberley Law, Chapman Chan, Jonathan Law and Justine Law. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren.
Ms. Cheung was born and raised in Chiu Chow, China, (廣東普寧懸) and lived through the Japanese occupation. After marrying, she moved to Hong Kong to join her husband where they became successful entrepreneurs and expanded their rice and grocery business to two locations in Sai Ying Pun. They were well known in the neighborhood; her business ethics earned admiration and trust from customers and employees, and respect from other business owners.
While managing her business Lin took time to raise their seven children and provided the best education for them. She and her husband recognized upper education as the first priority and sent their four sons abroad to Taiwan and America for college. After retiring from her business in Hong Kong, she and her husband immigrated to America in 1977 to join her sons in Massachusetts and California, finally settling in Union City, CA in 1988.
Lin Heung Cheung loved children; family was the center of her life. After retirement, she devoted all of her time and energy to raising and nurturing her grandchildren. She would often travel to Taiwan, Toronto and Boston to spend time with them and showered them with love and unforgettable stories. Later in the 1990’s she stayed in California to raise her younger grandchildren. They will always remember her petite stature and powerful voice, and, more importantly, the joy and laughter that she shared with them.
Lin’s easy-going personality and friendliness allowed her to make many good friends. She was always cordial and spoke well of her friendships. She welcomed her children’s friends into her home and treated them as her own as well.
