Kabir Kapur tragically passed away November 26 at the age of 30.
Kabir was born in London in 1992. He came to California when he was 4 years old and lived in the East Bay. He attended UC Davis for undergrad and studied Political Science. Since he was young, his mother Schena knew he was a force to be reckoned with and boy was she right. Kaibr was a true believer in the realest sense. Whenever there was a fight against injustice, Kabir was there on the frontlines and unafraid of confrontation. He could be found at almost any protest in the Bay Area. He hated any attachment to material things because to him connections and relationships are what held true value. Kabir lived the way he preached and held everyone else to that standard. He always carried the constitution in his back pocket because for him it was imperative to know one’s rights and stand up for them when required.
Kabir had an unwavering love and admiration for the SF Giants. He was always wearing black and orange. If anyone ever challenged how great the Giants were, Kabir would passionately remind them why they were the best team. Although Kabir was an atheist, he considered the Giant’s stadium his church and his true home.
Community meant everything to Kabir. If a friend or family member was ever in need of support, they knew they could call on Kabir. He loved bringing people together. During any get together, Kabir would scurry around the room talking about controversial political topics, telling jokes, playing his favorite music, and filling the room with laughter.
Kabir broke through any mold society tried to put him in. He lived his most authentic life and in his short time here, made a huge impact on the lives of many, no matter what age, race or religion. Even in death, by being an organ donor, he continues to provide and save the lives of many. His family said goodbye to him as the song “Lean On Me” played. Kabir truly lived up to his name, “the Great.”
Rest in Power, Kabir, you shooting star.
