Joyce M. Sonobe, a longtime resident of Albany, passed away peacefully on Jan. 6, 2017. Born in Paia, Maui in 1934, Joyce moved with her family to Berkeley in 1958. She enjoyed a long banking career where she helped numerous local merchants over the years, many of whom became her friend. Whatever establishment we walked into on Solano Ave., it seemed like everyone knew her name.
She is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Jean (Jim) and sons Mark and Michael (Kara) and her grandchildren Stephanie, Nicole, Brandon, Danielle and Eric.
