José Carlos Pinguelo

José Pinguelo passed away peacefully at the wonderful age of 90 on August 31, 2025. Born and raised in Ilhavo, Portugal in 1935 to Evaristo and Rosa Pinguelo. José would later immigrate to Oakland, CA in the 1950s when he was just 18 years old, where he would work the next 40+ years as a Longshoreman – ILWU Crane Operator for the Port of Oakland and meet his beloved wife of 54 years, MaryAnn Pinguelo. They would go on to have a large beautiful family of 5 sons and 6 grandchildren. Together with his wife, MaryAnn, they would own and operate MaryAnn’s Place in downtown Oakland for 13 years. During his free time, he enjoyed spending time outside in his garden, cooking and traveling.
He is survived by his sons, Joe Pinguelo, Mike Pinguelo, Rick Pinguelo, Frank Pinguelo and Paul Pinguelo; daughters-in-law, Misty Pinguelo, Lisa Pinguelo and Leslie Pinguelo; grandchildren, Jeremiah Pinguelo, Chad Pinguelo, Franqui Pinguelo, Alexis Pinguelo, Paris Pinguelo and Jacob Pinguelo; sister, Virginia (Gina) Pinguelo Rodrigues as well as godchildren, nieces and nephews.
His passion for life, hard work and dedication will not be forgotten. He will be missed and loved by many.
Funeral services for José will be held at Sunset View Memorial, 101 Colusa Ave El Cerrito, CA.
