John was born in Oakland, raised in Berkeley California, attended Berkeley High and UC Berkeley, and received his DDS degree from UCSF in 1959. He practiced dentistry in El Cerrito for 40 years. He was a proud grandfather, a dedicated Dad, a loving husband and a true friend to many. This was a man who knew how to live life to the fullest, with generosity and compassion for everyone he met. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva; his four children, Lynn, Kristine (George Banis), Andrew (Andrea) and John (Vicki); and his grandchildren James Puett; Angelique and Anisa Banis; Evan, Nicholas and Alex Barakos; and Yianni, Elias, Nikko and Teo Barakos.
Trisagion will be held at 7:00pm, Tuesday, March 28 at Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland, funeral service will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 29 at the same location. Donations may be made in John’s name to the Ascension Cathedral in Oakland or Assumption Church in Scottsdale AZ.
