Jane passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, after a 12-year battle with Parkinson’s. Jane was born on February 18, 1940, in Bakersfield, California, where she graduated from Garces High School in 1957. She moved to Berkeley to attend the University of California, graduating in 1961. Shortly thereafter, while playing doubles tennis, she met the love of her life, Leo.
For many years, Jane was a teacher at Gay Austin Nursery School in Berkeley, then the business manager of Prospect School in El Cerrito. She was an excellent bridge player, and was a “gourmet cook” at a time when the term was reserved for chefs at high-end restaurants. She loved and cared for all animals, treating them with compassion and respect. As a result, the family dogs were capable of many things, including closing doors behind them as they entered a room, and distinguishing between the Tribune and the Chronicle on the front lawn.
Most of all, Jane loved her family.
Jane is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leo, her son, Joe (Kari), her daughter, Anne (Eddy), grandsons Nick and Blake, and granddaughters Amy, Katie, and Samantha, and other extended family members. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
