Helen Lo Yang was born in Guangzhou, China on January 16, 1935. In 1937 the family moved to Hong Kong where they settled in Kowloon Tong. Helen studied in the UK, traveling to the US spending time in Hawaii, and ultimately receiving her Baccalaureate degree from the University of Oregon.
After marrying Joseph Yang in 1965 and the birth of her son, Bennett, in 1967, Helen began a teaching career working with elementary school children in Oakland, California. She left teaching after a few years to work at Blue Cross for almost 20 years in an administrative capacity. Helen then spent an additional 10 years working with the County of Alameda, after which she retired.
Helen went to be with the Lord on July 28th after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, and is survived by her son Bennett; her daughter-in-law May; and her grandson Matthew.
