Hayami “Hi” Fujii passed peacefully in his home on August 8, 2015 in Cupertino at the age of 84.
Hi is survived by wife, Phyllis (Matsuo); children, Barbara and Roger (wife Elaine, children Amaya and Sophia, stepson Mikey); sisters, Vickie Yumoto and Michiko Uchida and extended family. He is preceded in death by parents, Kurasaburo and Kikuyo; sisters Shizu Sato, Yuri Maeda, and Haru Hayashida; brother, John Fujii.
Hi was born and raised in Berkeley. He was interned at Topaz in Utah during WWII. He graduated from UC Berkeley and served as an officer in the US Army Reserves. Hi retired from Hewlett Packard after 42 years.
Hi enjoyed fishing, reading, skiing, playing handball, and running. But most of all, spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of the Wesley Methodist Church, YMCA, Nisei Ski Club, HP Sportfishers, and the Berkeley Methodist Church.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on August 28, 2015 at 5PM at Wesley United Methodist Church at 566 N. Fifth St., San Jose, CA 95112. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wesley United Methodist Church at 566 N. Fifth St., San Jose, CA 95112. Interment at Sunset View Cemetery.
