Our vibrant father Harold (Hal) Ferman passed away at 97. He died as he lived – courageous, on his own terms. Born in NYC, Hal graduated CCNY as an aeronautical engineer. In 1941, while working for Curtiss Wright in LA, he married his first love, Celia Polonsky. During WWII, stationed in China, Hal was responsible for keeping C46’s in the air as they flew over The Hump. After the war, Hal and Celia started their family in NY. Always the engineer, Hal would become one of the first mass producers of designer dresses under the label Hal Ferman, Inc., all the while building a 40’ catamaran. Celia passed in 1995, but Hal continued his lifelong curiosity for learning, music, and facilitating political debate. His generosity to loved ones was deep and heartfelt. At 93, Hal met his second love, Joanne Hummel. He leaves behind his children, Andy (Ina), Johanna, and Lisa (Tim) and grandchildren, Alexa (Matt), and Cole. The twinkle in his eye will live on in all who knew him. “Right you are!”, Harold.
