Glen Edward Whiteman Jr. passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021, in Richmond, California following a lengthy battle with advanced-stage cancer. He was 54. Glen was born November 8, 1966, in Walnut Creek, California, the son of Glen Sr. and Kathleen (Hearne) Whiteman. He was raised and went to schools in Walnut Creek, later resided in the nearby towns of Lafayette and Martinez, and eventually settled with his family in Richmond.
Glen enjoyed the outdoors from an early age. He and family routinely camped, fished, road bikes and motorcycles.
As a teenager Glen’s passion for speed and cars grew. He loved wrenching on cars, racing cars, and racing motorcycles. He was mechanically inclined and talented at building things with his hands.
Glen’s talent for building and creating eventually led him to a career in the trades and he became a licensed contractor doing residential remodels. Glen had an eye for design and a meticulous attention to detail. He took pride in several projects including bath and kitchen remodels.
Glen had an amazing passion for life that only grew stronger with his terminal diagnosis in 2014. Refusing to let his condition deprive him of precious time, he fought hard through many physical and emotional setbacks. His tenacity was an inspiration to others.
Glen is survived by family and friends from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, including his wife, Estie Briggs, and daughter, Coral Whiteman, of Richmond; mother, Kathleen (Hearne) Whiteman, of Walnut Creek; brother, Steve Whiteman, of Durango, Colorado; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Northern California, parts of Canada, and elsewhere. Cremation has occurred at Sunset View Mortuary. A celebration of life is planned for fall 2021 pending pandemic conditions for gatherings.
