Gayle passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 31 st , 2025 at
Stanford Hospital. Gayle was born in Gardena, California. Gayle
is a graduate of Long Beach State University with a B.S. in
Anthropology. She married Norman Hayashi in 1977 and moved
to the Bay Area. She worked as a plant propagator in the
Hayashi’s wholesale company.
Gayle’s hobbies and interests included various crafts, like making
greeting cards for various occasions. Gayle also loved to bake
cakes and cookies!
Gayle is survived by her husband, Norman Hayashi, brothers Ken
and Steve Taketomo, and sister-in-law Jan Taketomo. Gayle is
also survived by Hayashi family – Gerald, Pat, and sister-in-law
Sandy, and sister-in-law Marilyn Hayashi-Penland, and brother-in-
law Rodney. Gayle also shared her life growing up with many
cousins.

Gayle, Stanford softball fans will miss all your smiles, generosity, thoughtfulness, kindness so much at the games!! I always looked forward to seeing you & Norm before every game. Ever since I met you two at the very 1st Stanford softball pre season bbq & endured rain delays or heat waves in the stands during the games, you never lost your cheerfulness! Thank you for brightening up everyone’s day! I will miss you so very much cheering so hard for our Cardinal softball team!!
