Gabriel John Ybarrolaza, born January 20, 1942, passed away on September 29, 2016. A 45 year resident of Dublin, CA, Gabe is survived by his loving and giving wife of 48 years, Pamela Ybarrolaza, sons Douglas Klapperich (Terry), Gabriel Ybarrolaza (Sandra), Nathan Ybarrolaza and daughter, Kathy Klapperich, and his three beloved grandchildren, Michael Klapperich, Kyle Ybarrolaza and Jessica Ybarrolaza. He is also survived by his older brother Julian Barrolaza (Heather) and younger sister, Margarita Hertzka (Edgar).
Gabe spent over 30 years serving as a Teamster Union representative. A movement he not only believed in, but also promoted with fervor and pride. He started as a truck driver for Local 70 and moved through the ranks to Business Representative. He finished his career as a consultant to Joint Counsel 7 and Local 856. He was very proud of the fact his children followed in his footsteps, each of them holding various Union jobs.
Although his job was his pride, his passion was the outdoors. Gabe loved hunting and fishing above all. His greatest friendships were formed in duck blinds and on fishing boats. A love he passed on to his children. He spent his available hours perfecting the hunt or finding the perfect fishing spot on his commercial fishing boat. His sanctuary was his land up in the Humboldt Mountains. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Waiting to greet him are his father (Julian), mother (Ludmilla) and brother (Alex).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church, 11555 Shannon Avenue, Dublin, CA. There will be a rosary the night before at the church at 7:30 p.m.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to either Small Boat Commercial Salmon Fishermen’s Association (SBCSFA.com) or Ducks Unlimited.
