Passed away peacefully after a brief illness Thursday, August 1, 2013 in Oakland, at 75 years of age. A native of Maskeliya, Sri Lanka, and long-time resident of Berkeley. Elizabeth attended St. Anthony’s School in Colombo; she then moved to Chennai, India, where she obtained a degree in Zoology from SIET College. Later, she settled in Berkeley, where she lived most of her life. Elizabeth was the eldest of nine siblings, an affectionate daughter and sister, loving aunt, and caring great-aunt. She was a truly committed Christian, regularly attending church, and fully involved in voluntary charity work. She was always punctual and conscientious in her work at Central Bank and Bank of the West, both in the East Bay, and at UC Berkeley Extension; retired 2003. Elizabeth loved collecting dolls from all parts of the world. She also enjoyed cooking, and prepared Indian dishes for her family and friends. She was meticulous about remembering birthdays with cards and gifts. Elizabeth had a passion for travelling and sightseeing, and enjoyed visiting with family in the US, UK, and India. She will be sadly missed by loving family and the many friends who devotedly cared for her.
Friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend memorial services Monday, August 12 at 1:00 p.m. in the Calvin Room of First Presbyterian Church, 2407 Dana Street, Berkeley. Private graveside services have already been held at Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.
