Dougan Chan was born to Dick and Yuet Ngor Chan in 1954 in San Francisco, CA. The second of four children, he was raised in the Richmond District of San Francisco, attended public schools in the area and graduated with a degree in Medical Microbiology at San Francisco State.
Dougan supported the family laundry business and later served the City and County of San Francisco for 24 years as a Deputy Sheriff. Affectionately known as “Doogie,” “Doogie Howser, “MacGyver,” or “Einstein”, he enjoyed tinkering with tools and doing his own construction projects in his spare time. Dougan also volunteered with Kimochi Home and Self-Help for the Elderly Foundation, where he delivered meals to the elderly every Thanksgiving. In addition, he enjoyed vacationing at Lake Tahoe each year.
Dougan is survived by his wife Marie and two children Denise and Daniel, his mother, siblings, nephews and nieces, and grandnephews. He is and always will be remembered as a kind, supportive, loving and good-humored person dedicated to his family and the well-being of others. He led by example, always in service to others and earned the respect of all who knew him. He will be remembered by family, friends, and families he served so selflessly.
