Dorothy Williams, born Dorothea Mae Davis to Joseph and Mabel Davis in Oakland on July 16, 1918, former resident of Richmond, passed away at daughter Wendy and son-in-law Keith Kinyon’s Pinole home on June 9, 2018 just one month short of her 100th birthday.
She resided in the East Bay her entire life, living in Oakland, Kensington, Richmond and Pinole. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1936 and met Ray Williams at a Berkeley fruit packing plant where they both worked. They were married in 1940 in Berkeley and later had a son Raymond Thomas Jr. (Tom) and a daughter Wendy. When Ray was drafted into the Marines in 1943 she lived in San Diego briefly until his medical discharge in 1944.
When Ray got a job with the City of Richmond in 1956 they purchased a new home in which she lived the rest of her life. Ray died in 1984 and she discovered she loved working in the garden and soon produced a beautiful rose garden. She loved music, gardening and her family. She loved visiting and talking to her family and church friends at El Sobrante Methodist Church where she was a long-time member.
She is survived by son Tom (Mary Ann), daughter Wendy (Keith); grandchildren Kenny, Jennifer (Steve), Kristin, Rachel (Andre) and Donald (Vicky); 12 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
There will be a service on Friday, June 15 at 11:00 am at Sunset View Mortuary Chapel, 101 Colusa Ave., El Cerrito, followed by burial at Sunset View Cemetery. There will be a memorial service/celebration of life Saturday, June 16 at 1 p.m. at El Sobrante Methodist Church, 5151 Argyle Rd, El Sobrante.
