Lola passed away on Friday July 22, 2016, surrounded by her family. Lola was the Dearest Beloved One to her husband (and dance partner) of 51 years, Fernando Mariscal; loving Mom to Jose Mariscal of San Pablo, Sonia Mariscal of Richmond, Marisa Mariscal of El Cerrito, and Andrina Mariscal of Richmond. Devoted “Nana” to Loreyna Mariscal and Oscar Ornelas Mariscal, sister to Tony Alvarez, sister-in-law to Ruth Marti, and “Tia Lola” to many nieces and nephews. She was 78.
The youngest daughter of Antonio and Domitila, Lola was raised in Oakland, CA, attending Golden Gate School and Oakland Technical High School. She worked at Prudential Insurance prior to starting her family. When her children were older, she enjoyed working part-time at (Emporium-) Capwell’s at El Cerrito Plaza, until the store closed. Her parents and sister, Vera Luevano, predeceased her.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital (Memorial and Honor Gifts, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142), one of Lola’s favorite charities.
