MAN, Derek K., 71, passed peacefully on Sunday morning, October 27, in his beautiful home in Millbrae, California surrounded by loving family until the very end. In the weeks leading to his death, family and friends flew from all over the world to see Derek and celebrate the good he had done in their lives.
Derek was born in Hong Kong on August 25, 1948 and grew to be an exceptional person in every way. Derek attended boarding school in Guanzhou, China where he met lifelong friends and his adoring wife, Jenifer. From the moment they met in 1967, Derek and Jenifer were inseparable, and they were together for 52 years until the very minute of his passing.
Derek and Jenifer immigrated to the United States as a married couple in 1976. In five years’ time, from 1976 to 1981, Derek learned to master the English language and, on June 19, 1981, graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. On September 5, 1984, Derek became licensed as a professional civil engineer by the State of California.
Derek achieved great professional success, but his true gift was his boundless love, affection, and caring for his family. In the month prior to his passing, Derek continued to go out to buy Baskin Robbins ice cream for his grandchildren. His perfect day prior to passing was witnessing the marriage of his younger daughter Jeanette in a loving ceremony performed at his home. Derek is survived by his devoted wife, Jenifer Man, daughters Kris Brewer and Jeanette Man, sons-in-law Reuben Brewer and Kevin Luciano, grandchildren Eleanor and Ronen Brewer, mother Sai Fai Man, and siblings Tony Man, Andy Man, Silas Man, Hing Sang Man, and Ying Sang Man.
