DeLouis “Dee” Knox, son of Mr. Curtis Sr. and Mrs. Ora Lee Knox took his turn to lift from this historical time in history on August 19, 2022.
His quiet battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges by continuing to put others first, something he did in sickness and in health. He stayed strong until the end.
Dee was born in Hope, Arkansas and moved to Richmond, California when he was three. As a child, Dee loved to sing and was always a part of the school chorus.
Dee was a husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, coach and friend to many. Dee was very social! He frequently got together with childhood friends for monthly breakfasts, loved parties and concerts and never met a stranger. Dee so enjoyed talking to people, hearing their stories and sharing his own.
He was a high school athlete who participated in basketball and track and field. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a college graduate, who earned a Master’s degree. He was a long time teacher in the Bay Area and later Vacaville, who coached track and field and basketball with a passion. He loved coaching! He also loved du-wop music, westerns (The Lone Ranger was a particular favorite) and cheering on his beloved Golden State Warriors. Dee loved collecting old records and baseball cards and for him a weekend well spent was at a card show or scouring garage sales and record stores looking for the next great find.
DeLouis was married 55 years and his wife, Ilene was his greatest find of all.
DeLouis was preceded in death by a brother Curtis L. Knox (C.L.), a brother John H. Knox, a sister Dorothy M. Williams, and a sister Betty J. Coutee. DeLouis is survived by his loving wife Ilene, daughter Danielle (son- in-law Tony), daughter Denine (son-in-law Quintin), and stepson Daymond Knox. He also leaves behind grandsons Quran, Santahna, Chayene, Romeo and Bryson and granddaughters Courtney and Demisha, a great granddaughter Layla as well as a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and many dear friends who deeply mourn his death.
A funeral service is scheduled for 12 noon on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Sunset View Cemetery and Mortuary
