Delores Elora Weigum Pulos, or Dee as we know her, was born on March 20, 1925, on the family farm nine miles north of Beulah, North Dakota to Edward and Sophia (Achtenberg) Weigum, both German immigrants from the Black Sea of Russia. She had seven siblings, Rose, Unette, Fern, Lorraine, Bernice, Elroy and Walter. At 101 years young, Dee was the last remaining member of the family when she left us on Friday, May 8 th , 2026, to be with her husband Sammy, her parents and siblings.
Growing up she attended a one room country school until the family moved to Beulah where she attended and graduated from Beulah High School. After which she moved to Denver Colorado where she began her secretarial work career. Around 1950, keeping a promise Dee made to her mother she boarded a train and headed to San Francisco, California. It was in San Francisco where she met Pop Joe and his wife Mary who took her in and treated her like their own daughter. Dee worked and held advanced senior secretarial positions at Raymond International Kaiser Engineers, and Bechtel Engineering.
It was in San Francisco that Dee met Sam and her next chapter began. They were married in the Greek Orthodox Church on October 3, 1953, and for the next 56 years they were inseparable.
Together they were blessed with three boys, Steve, Joseph, and Dennis.
Dee was lovingly devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking and took joy in setting a holiday table. She loved a hot cup of coffee in a glass cup and played a mean game of checkers. She could put a puzzle together without looking at the picture, and could decorate a Christmas tree like a display in a holiday window. She found beauty in clouds and would often stop to pick a flower or collect a leaf. She was devoted too her Church and became a Sunday school teacher. She loved to shop, even with all three boys in tow. We think she kept Capwells, Macys and Nordstroms in business. In later years she began discovering treasures with Joe at every estate sale and antique shop around town. She loved her crafts and working as well as teaching at the local hobby shop. Most of all she treasured her times getting up early with Sam and the boys, packing up the car and traveling to go camping or spend the time together exploring new areas across the United States eventually expanding to travel in Europe and the Mediterranean.
In her later years, Dee developed Alzheimer’s, however, she never forgot her family and often remembered her earlier days which kept her with positive thoughts. She not only overcame breast cancer but open-heart surgery as well. Our saint here on earth was Joseph, her son, who was not only her caregiver for more than 15 years, but he had previously helped as the caregiver of Sam, her husband, for more than 10 years.
Dee is survived by her sons, Steve and his wife, Leila and their (2) kids, Mia and her husband Matt, and Sammy; Joseph Pulos; and Dennis and his wife, Julie and their (3) kids, Nicholas and his wife, Casey, Christopher, and Stephanie and her husband, Karan, and their (3) Daughters, Ari, Indigo and Jaya. Dee (YiaYia) was blessed with (5) grandkids and (3) great-grandkids.
Today we celebrate the gift of having her touch our lives. Dee, may you rest in peace now that you are with your family.
