David Frederick Hollingshead
March 9, 1952 – March 2, 2021
David Hollingshead passed away early evening of Monday, March 2nd, 2021 overlooking an orange pink sunset sky coloring his cherished San Francisco Bay.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Mary Ellen and Frederick Hollingshead, he was the youngest of three sons. He attended Sebring High School in Florida and Manchester College in Indiana. Moving west to California, David attended graduate school at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and was a Rockefeller scholar. Upon graduation, David planted his roots in the San Francisco Bay Area building a career with the IT staffing process in both Fortune 500 corporations and placement firms. He was a hands-on recruiter and as the architect of IT staffing strategies for Sybase, McKesson, Duty Free Americas Inc. and Macy’s. In addition to his staffing focus, he has managed numerous IT organization development projects & compensation studies in the distribution, retail and software sectors. He had been retired 4 years from the University of California office of the President as Senior IT Recruiter in the Department of Human Resources. He was quite active in several of the Bay Area professional organizations.
David met Melanie (Timm) 40 years ago in the East Bay and married 38 years ago in Melanie’s hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. They have lived in Richmond for 33 years where they raised their two sons: Erik Hollingshead and Michael Hollingshead. David was always devoted to his family: nurturing and guiding his two sons, loving, supporting, and exploring lands and cultures near and far with his wife, and connecting and visiting with his extended family of brother’s family in Southern California and wife’s family in Tennessee. He was also a dedicated neighbor as president/volunteer for the Carriage Hills community and a committed and constant presence for his Lakeridge club buddies and friends.
David will be missed by many people for his dry, funny humor and his enduring friendships. He will be remembered for his many passions and hobbies of listening, playing, and studying music and music history with a guitar focus; reading, studying, and learning new ideas; fishing, boating, gardening, and restoring projects around his home; and in listening, counseling, and deep, philosophical conversations. His memory and spirit will stay forever in those who knew and loved him.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, a celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date. If you would like to donate in his name, please consider the following charities: American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and Heifer Project.
