“Forever loved, never forgotten.”
Born in White Hall, Illinois, on August 12, 1926, David was the son of Margaret and Clifford Seely. The family moved to Peoria, Illinois with David and his older brother, Don. David and Don’s school years were spent in Peoria. After graduation, David joined the U.S. Navy and Don the U.S. Army. David served on an Escort Carrier in the South Pacific during World War II, the U.S.S. Munda. His ship was one of the first to enter the Japanese Harbor after the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan.
David was a proud and patriotic American all of his life.
When the war ended, David entered the American Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. While in the Navy, his ship had visited San Francisco, and he stated that “this is where I’m going to live one day”.
After graduating, he went to San Francisco and got a job at the San Francisco ABC affiliate, KGO TV, where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of and on the board of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and was an honorary member of the Television Silver Circle and Broadcast Legends.
David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend.
He married his longtime sweetheart, Glenna Jean Hanks, in 1951. They were married for almost 70 years. They have three children, Lisa Joy Gillooly, Brent David Americus Seely, son-in-law Josef and Cynthia Jean Seely-Eisner. His grandchildren were a gift to him, all five of them. They are Laura Gardella, Brittany Seely, Cheyanne Seely, Shane Seely, and Kara Jade Eisner. His great grandchildren Hannah and Micah Gardella were a bonus joy.
David was a talented fine artist and a remarkable Mr. Fix-It in all fields. His favorite place was to be at their home they designed and built at Windflower Point on the water in Lake County, CA. Sharing it with family and friends brought him great pleasure. He enjoyed traveling, cruises, sports and music, and sitting on his deck at the Lake, enjoying the beauty of God’s work
He had a long and wonderful life.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna, his 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews.
May he rest in peace.
