Charles Arthur Wright (Charlie/Pops) passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, California. Born October 24, 1918, he is the son of the late George and Gertrude (Harvey) Wright of Seattle, Washington. The youngest of 2 children, he was preceded in death by his older brother George.
Charlie served in the US Army during WWII, a Sergeant, in North Africa and Italy. After the war, he met his beautiful bride, Margaret, a student at UC Berkeley. They married in 1948 in Oakland, California.
In 1946 Charlie began a 30 yr career in US Postal Service where he was a mail carrier and supervisor/Foreman at the Rincon Annex Station, San Francisco until his retirement in 1976.
Charlie enjoyed travelling with his wife, spending time with family, reading and singing with the church choir led by choir conductor and teacher Bill Bell (The Jazz Professor). In high school he was active in sports and played the trumpet.
Charlie was married to Margaret for 56 yrs. She lost her battle with cancer in 2004. Charlie is survived by his sons Arthur and Gregory; daughter in law Charity (Roquero), Grandchildren Tristan, Rizal/Donna (Zapico); Cousins, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June at 13, 2017 at Downs Memorial United Methodist Church, 6026 Idaho St Oakland, Ca at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Santa Clara County.
