On Thursday, February 2, 2023, Bill DeWeese, (91 years old), went to be with the Lord peacefully in Palm Desert, CA. Born in Quinlan, Texas, he moved to Richmond, CA in 1942, and later to San Pablo, where he resided for over 80 years.
Bill graduated from Richmond High School in 1948, where he met his pre-deceased wife of 56 years, Sherry (McAfee) DeWeese. Together they enjoyed raising their three loving daughters, Linda, Sandy, and Susan, who will always hold many fond family memories in their hearts. He enjoyed his position as Production Manager at Rheem manufacturing for 40 years, and proudly wore his gold retirement watch every day.
He spent his spare time fishing and hunting with his son-in-laws, Ron Springer and Mike Foster, playing dominoes with his friends from Faith Baptist Church, working on his yard, and listening to his favorite Big Band or Country artists. He enjoyed watching games and cheering on his favorite Bay Area teams, the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and the Oakland A’s. As a season ticket holder, he especially enjoyed going to the Oakland A’s games with his family. However, his deepest passion was golf. As a Lifetime Member of the Richmond Golf and Country Club, he enjoyed golfing with his friends, won many tournaments, and was a member of the Hole in One Club. He enjoyed lunches at the Club House and interacting with the staff. The family wishes to thank Ron and those at Richmond GCC who brightened Bill’s days for so many years.
Bill is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ron Springer, Sandy and Mike Foster, Susan and Jeff Rawnsley; grandchildren and their spouses Lindsay (Foster) and Mike Mertens, Derek and Jolene Foster, and David and Susie Springer, Hayley Rawnsley and Spencer Rawnsley; great grandchildren Adam and Emily Mertens, and Alyssa Springer. He will be dearly missed, but always remembered for his kind heart, infectious laugh and sense of humor as a father, father-in-law, proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
A private family ceremony was held in Palm Desert, CA on February 12, 2023. He was laid to rest next to his wife at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, CA on February 17th.
