Bessie Louise Davis Waldon was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and work colleague whose kindness touched every person she met.
Born in Austin, Texas, Bessie traveled with her family to California when she was young and settled in Oakland with her mother Janie and two older sisters Henria and Bernita.
Bessie graduated from Oakland Technical High School, and four years later she graduated from San Francisco State University in 1954. Bessie also earned her master’s degree in social work from UC Berkeley.
While a student at San Francisco State, Bessie met Donald Waldon, and they were married in 1956. They settled in Berkeley and had two daughters, Lori and Lynn.
For more than 32 years, Bessie’s career was dedicated to Social Work. She retired in 1993 from Contra Costa County’s Children’s Services, where she was a respected and beloved supervisor.
In their retirement, she and husband Donald greatly enjoyed traveling around the world, and spending time with their loving family and friends.
Bessie’s warm, caring, and generous heart will be missed and always remembered. She was a treasure.
